pollution in the fox river essays In Health Occupations Academy, students are offered numerous opportunities that outside students are not. One of them being the class Advanced Topics In Medical Science. In this class, students are exposed to debates and problems of the environment first semester, and health and medical issues second semester. Throughout first semester we engaged in multiple environmental issues, the biggest being water pollution. We started this unit by looking at frog deformities and the main cause of them. This led into the water pollution problem. We came across the issues of human pollution both chemically and physically. Mr. Lundquist introduced us to chemical testing first by going to the school's pond. Here we tested by only looking, not physically testing. We saw that the pond had an excessive amount of moss, meaning there were high phosphate levels in the water. This is caused by the lack of movement of the water and the fish's bowel movements, which produce phosphate. This experience ga ve us a taste of what the actual river walk was going to be like. During the time we were planning on doing our testing, there was a controversy between the Friends of the Fox and Fox Metro. The Friends of the Fox is a community formed group to protect the Fox River, and Fox Metro is Aurora's water treatment center. Friends of the Fox claim to have gotten much, much, higher levels of phosphate than Fox Metro had recorded. So we hoped that with our testing, we could find out ourselves which source had the right information We took a trip Students can make a difference! to where the Marina Valley Water Treatment Center effluent was found, then to the mouth of the Waubonsee Creek and the Fox River. Non-Member Countries of the United Nations Although most of the worlds 196 countries have joined forces to tackle global issues like global warming, trade policy, and human rights and humanitarian issues through joined the United Nations as U.N. member states, two countries are not members of the U.N.: Palestine and the Holy See (Vatican City). Both, however, are considered Non-member States of the United Nations, which means they have permanent invitations to participate as observers of the General Assembly and are provided free access to documents of the United Nations. Although not specifically dictated in provisions of the United Nations, the non-member permanent observer status has been recognized as a matter of practice in the U.N. since 1946 when the Swiss Government was given the status by the Secretary-General. More often than not, permanent observers later join the United Nations as full members when their independence has been recognized by more members and their governments and economy have stabilized enough to be able to provide financial, military or humanitarian support for international initiatives of the United Nations. Palestine Palestine currently operates on a Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations because of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and its subsequent fight for independence. Until such a time as the conflict is resolved, though, the United Nations cannot allow Palestine to become a full member because of a conflict of interest with Israel, which is a member state. Unlike other conflicts in the past, namely Taiwan-China, the United Nations favors a two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict wherein both states emerge from the battle as independent nations under a peaceful pact. If this does happen, Palestine would almost certainly be accepted as a full member of the United Nations, though that depends on member states votes during the next General Assembly. The Holy See (Vatican City) The independent papal state of 771 people (including the Pope) was created in 1929, but they have not chosen to become part of the international organization. Still, Vatican City currently operates in the United Nations as a Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the U.N. Essentially, this just means that the Holy See- which is separate from Vatican City State - has access to all parts of the United Nations but does not get to cast a vote in the General Assembly, largely because of the Popes preference to not immediately affect international policy. The Holy See is the only fully independent nation to choose not to be a member of the United Nations. States Without Non-member Observer Status Unlike the U.N.s official permanent observers, these states are not recognized by the U.N. However, they are recognized as independent states by some of the U.N.s members. Name Recognized By Kosovo 102 U.N. member states Western Sahara 44 U.N. member states Taiwan 16 U.N. member states South Ossetia 5 U.N. member states Abkhazia 5 U.N. member states Northern Cyprus 1 U.N. member state Kosovo Kosovo declared independence from Serbiaà on February 17, 2008, but has not gained complete international recognition to allow it to become a member of the United Nations. Still, at least one member country of the U.N. recognizes Kosovo as capable of independence, though it technically still remains part of Serbia, acting as an independent province. However, Kosovo is not listed as an official non-member state of the United Nations, though it has joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which are two other international communities focused more on international economy and global trade rather than geopolitical issues. Kosovo does hope to one day join the United Nations as a full member, but political unrest in the region, as well as the ongoing United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), have kept the country from political stability to the degree required to join as a functioning member state. Today, Kosovo is recognized by 102 U.N. members. Taiwan In 1971 the Peoples Republic of China (mainland China) replaced Taiwan (also known as the Republic of China) in the United Nations, and to this day the status of Taiwan remains in limbo because of political unrest between those claiming Taiwanese independence and PRCs insistence on control over the entire region. The General Assembly has not fully extended the non-member state status of Taiwan since 2012 because of this unrest. Unlike Palestine, however, the United Nations does not favor a two-state resolution and has subsequently not offered non-member status to Taiwan as to not offend the Peoples Republic of China, which is a member state. Today, Taiwan is recognized by 16 U.N. members.

When the existence of a particular species is threatened the world faces a misbalance too. Though laws in all most all countries exist, which forbids killing of endangered species, yet a group of people ignore the severity of the problem and continue hunting. In Nagaland, a tribal place in India, villagers hunt the Great Hornbill just to pluck their feathers to make dresses or headgears. The hunting has become so severe that only a few hundred Great Hornbills exist today. Some people illegally hunt endangered species like one-horned rhinoceros or African elephants to use their horns and teeth for trade purposes. It is evident that not everyone is aware of the fact that animals have precious lives too and need to be protected. We cannot eliminate an entire species for our own selfish purposes. More National parks and Reserv es should be set up to protect wildlife and animals from external threat and forest officers should be employed to look after the animals in these areas and protect them from poachers. Laws covering animal protection must include severe punishments for the law-breakers and such people should not be pardoned at all. Since it is us who have destroyed the natural habitats of most wildlife animals, we should be responsible for their rehabilitation and protection. The national parks and bioreserves should also employ veterinarians to ensure immediate medical attention for animals in times of need. But, more importantly mass education should be conducted in every country to educate the people about the need of animal protection and unethical hunting. In some countries killing certain animals for sport is supported and there are seasons called hunting seasons which allows hunters to hunt animals like antlered bucks, antlerless bucks, minks, foxes, turkeys and small game animals like rabbit s, raccoons or squirrels. In fact, sometimes hunting is termed as ââ¬Å"ethical huntingâ⬠which is a mockery of the word ââ¬Å"ethicsâ⬠itself; because I do not think anyone with the right ethics would ever indulge in hunting. Wildlife biologists agree that overpopulation of deer poses a problem, but they reject the idea that foxes, turkey and game animals must be included in the hunting list too. Hunting parks issue licenses and allow one license holder only a certain number of kills per year. Parks do their own duty by printing manuals that train hunters in recognizing animals and issue rules about using hunting weapons. However, even after such precautions some hunters fail to recognize animals from a distance and may kill a species that should not hunted. In other cases, hunters do not kill their game entirely and leave it badly injured or crippled. In such cases the injured animals suffers a long and utterly painful death. According to a PETA report ââ¬Å"A member of the Maine Bow Hunters Alliance estimates that fifty percent of animals who are shot with crossbows are wounded but not killed. A study of 80- radio collared white-tailed deer, found that, out of 22 deer that had been shot with traditional archery equipment, 11 were wounded but not recovered.â⬠Thus, a high percentage of animals are only wounded. ââ¬Å"

Results of the interview questions reflect the difference between the preschooler and the elementary school pupil. The childââ¬â¢s reason for his best friendship is for example more rational that that of the preschooler as it identifies a mutual relationship besides offer from the friend as a driver. The first time I happened to know about computer networks was when in my third semester, I attended a lecture on networking by one of the university professors. This lecture had left me awed. With the increased curiosity in this field of networking, I enrolled myself in a course called "Networks". Within this course, I got an opportunity to work on various switched networks, FTP, DNS, DHCP, NFS and Telnet configurations, shell programming, apache web server, structured cabling, firewall services, configuring send mail and some countermeasures for hacking. The ample amount of hands-on experience and tests that they had made us take, was sufficient to evoke a propensity towards networking. Since then, there has been no looking back. Very early in my life I realised my penchant for engineering which made me take up diploma in electronics and communication right after school. The experience of studying in a prestigious institute like Vivekanand Education Societyââ¬â¢s Polytechnic, Mumbai, acted as a web where engineering concepts gripped my mind. Subjects such as Computer fundamentals and Digital communications compelled me to dig deeper and explore more into this field. I ranked 2nd in the institute and 16th in the final academic year across the Maharashtra state, is a testimony to the fact that I strive to do my best at anything that I commit to. This helped me build a strong foundation which in turn opened the doors to Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, one of the premier institutes affiliated to Mumbai University, to pursue my degree in Electronics and Telecommunication engineering. My experience as an undergraduate student at this institute has played a vital role in shaping my interest towards networki ng. The rigorous curriculum ... ...ffered by Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the North Carolina State University being particularly in tune with global industry demands and recent developments will undoubtedly provide me with unique learning opportunities.
